A ‘Jobs Wanted’ section: What do you think?
I’ve had a few enquiries from people looking for a job asking if they can post a ‘job wanted’ ad on the site.
There hasn’t been anywhere it would be appropriate to post that type of ad on the site as yet, but I’ve been considering the possibility of adding a section where people can do just that – add a covering letter with the ability to link to a portfolio and to download a CV.
This sort of post would obviously have to be kept separate from actual job postings and wouldn’t appear in the normal RSS and Twitter feeds but I think it might be of some use to those companies looking to fill a position to have access to a directory of designer/developers in the area who might fit what they are looking for.
What do you think? Would you find it useful or do you see any potential negatives?
Report points to Cardiff as a future hub of UK creative industries
The Future of Business 2011 report commissioned by HSBC has identified Cardiff as a UK leader for creative industries.
It’s confirmed my point of view that the area is potentially a great place to find a job in the creative sector thanks, in part, to the concentration of television companies like the BBC and S4C.
“It is perhaps testament to the city’s growing reputation as a centre for the creative industries that this report recognises that Cardiff will assume an increasingly important position in UK’s creative output in its various guises”, said Hywel Thomas, a spokesman for Cardiff & Co, the company which is promoting the capital.

New Course for web developers looking for work in the creative industries
Cyfle, the training company specialising in the creative media industries in Wales and based in both North and South Wales, has revealed a new 6 month, part-time course aimed at intermediate to advanced digital media developers and programmers who are interested in working in the creative industries.
The aim of the course is to enhance the skills of existing computer/digital programmers and developers and encourage them to further their careers within the Creative Media industry and fill the substantial skills shortage of web/games/app/digital media developers and programmers who currently take up employment outside of Wales.
All eligible participants will work towards a Post Graduate Certificate Professional Practice in the Creative Industries or gain credits. The scheme will be accredited by the University of Glamorgan.

Design Jobs Wales now with relevant ads
I set up Design Jobs Wales last year because of the trouble I had trying to find a job even though there is such a big design community in Wales, particularly in Cardiff.
In the past year I have had some great feedback from both employers and those seeking employment about the site so it’s good to know it’s proving useful to the community and hopefully it will continue to be.
It’s important to me that the site remains free for companies seeking designers so to help with the costs of the site I have now added some relevant and unobtrusive ads to the site. The advertising is provided by InfluAds, a network specialising in ads aimed at the design and development community as it is extremely important to me that the ads are relevant and well designed.
The advertisers on the network include Squarespace, Chargify and KISSmetrics, so, if you’d like to show your support for this site and an ad interests you, please click on it.
